The Flower Mound City Council unanimously called a bond election Monday night to fund the construction of a new tennis center at Trotter Park, 4551 Cross Timbers Road.

The proposed tennis center will include 16 lighted tennis courts, 12 lighted pickleball courts, a clubhouse with restrooms, a playground, walking trails, parking and landscaping. The primary operating model presented in the tennis center’s feasibility study was independent operation of the tennis center, and according to the city, a fee structure would be established where residents and foreign prices would be charged for the use of the facilities. However, these points have not been finalized, and the remuneration structure has not yet been confirmed.

The new tennis center is estimated to cost about $15 million, and the city plans to fund half of that with general bonds, if approved by voters, and the other half from the city’s general fund, 4B sales tax fund and parks development fund. . If repayment is paid evenly across the funds, the projected property tax impact would be $0.0022 based on an average home value of $448,540, which is less than $10 a year for Flower Mound families with that average home value, according to the city.

The tennis center bond is Proposition A on the May 6 election of Flower Mound residents. If approved, the city expects construction to begin about a year later and be completed about a year later, likely in the summer of 2025 at the earliest.
