Sometimes announcers have the power to fool athletes and give them the opportunity to immediately prove the announcer wrong just by what they say.
This announcer Jinx comes from tennis, where the commentator underestimates how many rackets would break.
At the Open Sud de France, defending champion Alexander Bublik had a tough time in his first-round match, but after surviving three match points to win the second set, he survived the third and deciding set. Bublik led 4-2 in the third set, but his opponent Gregoire Barrere came back to force a tiebreaker. After three double faults that gave Barrere a 6-0 lead in the tiebreak, Bublik picked up and broke his racket, slamming it into the court five times.
As the sound of the club echoed throughout the arena like Ric Flair’s chop, broadcaster Sue Thearles deadpanned, “The good news is he’s got a lot of other clubs.”

Bublik went to his bag and broke two more clubs right after the announcer said. After breaking the clubs, Thearle summed up the moment perfectly, saying, “I think that gives us a little bit of an indication of where his mindset is right now.”
No doubt this is poor sportsmanship and Bublik needs to control his emotions better, but Thearle and Mikey Perera’s comments are brilliant unintentional deadpan humor.
Unsurprisingly, Barrere won the semifinal and advanced in the tournament.
