#40 Women’s Tennis begins spring with an 8-1 loss at #6 MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brandeis University women’s tennis team dropped its first match of the spring season today, falling to rival MIT 8-1.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN

• The Engineers took a 2-1 lead after a double. MIT won 8-0 at No. 2 and 8-4 at No. 3.
• Judges used a late serve break 1. as a sophomore Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India/Kumkum School) and the first year Rebecca Suarez (Huntington, NY / International Virtual Learning Academyknocked off the team of Sarah Pertsemlidis and Jessica Lu, ranked No. 3 in the region and No. 10 in Division III, 8-6.
• In singles, the Engineers swept the judges, with the best match being 1, where Suarez and Pertsemlidis met again. Suarez started the first set 6-4 against the player from the northeast and the second ranked player in the country. Pertsemlidis bounced back to win the second set 6-3, then took a super tiebreak 10-6 to win the third set.
• The judges also got a tight match from the other two first years, as Nancy Zhang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai International Department) at #3 and Ella Chase (Lincoln, Mass. / Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) at No. 5 each won six games (6-3, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-2) over their Engineer opponents.
