Women’s tennis wraps up the ECAC Championship

HANOVER, NH – Fatima Keita earned the Lions’ only point of the afternoon as Columbia lost to Harvard 4-1 in the ECAC Championship third-place game.

Harvard started the afternoon by winning the doubles point to grab an early lead. Rachel Arbitman and Iveta Daujotaite won the #60 duo Anna Zhang and Sofia Wang at No. 1 singles. Sophia Ho and Maxi Duncan then fell Rachel Rimondini and Sofia Strugnell6-3 in the No. 2 spot. Winta Tewolde and Michelle Xu beat Charlotte Owensby and Angel You at No. 3 doubles for Columbia’s only doubles win.

Harvard’s No. 75 Owensby won 6-4, 6-4 Anna Zhang at No. 1 singles. Ducan beat Rimondini 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2. Sany Gawande earned a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Tewolde at No. 5 singles. Keita took the only singles victory of the Lions’ Day over Iveta Daujotaite 7-6(4), 6-0.

NEXT

The Lions will play against Michigan State and Hofstra next Sunday.
