Taiwan’s women’s table tennis duo won the WTT Contender Amman

Taipei, Feb. 13 (CNA) Taiwanese paddlers Cheng I-ching () and Li Yu-jhun () won the women’s doubles title at the WTT Contender Amman on Sunday, defeating France’s Prithika Pavade and Camille Lutz in the final.

Cheng and Li won 7-11, 11-6, 9-11, 12-10, 11-3 in a 35-minute best-of-five match at the Sport Palace Hall in the Jordanian capital.

The Taiwanese pair got off to a shaky start, losing two of the first three games as they struggled to adjust to the aggressive playing style of Pavade and Lutz.

However, after falling in the fourth game, Cheng and Li recovered from a 5-9 loss with three consecutive points. They then saved match point and went on a four-point run to win the game 12-10.

The Taiwanese duo raced to a 9-1 lead in the fifth game, which they eventually won 11-3.

For Cheng, who had played mixed doubles from 2019 to 2021 to prepare for the Tokyo Olympics, Sunday’s performance was her first tournament win in women’s doubles since the 2016 Swedish Open. trips in the second half of 2022.

“I feel like I’m slowly getting it back and I’m going in the right direction,” Cheng said after the match, adding that he felt “validated” and “very happy” for his and Li’s first-place finish.
