The ITTF Board announces updates to the world ranking rules

The International Table Tennis Federation Executive Board recently approved changes to the ITTF Table Tennis World Ranking Regulations following a review by the World Ranking Working Group. The new regulations contain several important updates aimed at improving the investment system.

Some of the notable changes include increasing the points awarded in the first round of the WTT Grand Smash event up to the Round of 64 category. The qualifying draws for these events can be a challenge for players ranked 50-120. The ITTF Board believes that this increase in qualifying round points serves as a fair recognition of the efforts of qualified players.

The updated rules also include a reduction in points for WTT Feeder events. The current 150 points had become a significant incentive for top players to participate in these events, which had a negative effect on lower level players. To address this issue and increase entry opportunities for lower-level players, WTT Feeder event winners will be reduced from 150 to 125 points, as will finalists, semi-finalists and quarter-finalists.

These are some of the changes that are part of the updated World Ranking Regulations. These changes have been made to provide a more balanced and fair ranking system for all participants and to ensure that the rankings accurately reflect the current level of players in our sport.
