Brower, ONeill Named to Tewaaraton Award Watch List

DURHAM Duke men’s lacrosse senior Kenny Brower and junior Brennan O’Neill was named to the 2023 Tewaaraton Award Men’s Watch List as recently announced by the Foundation. O’Neill was a Tewaaraton Award nominee a year ago with the Blue Devils.

The Tewaaraton Award is awarded annually to the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of senior academics and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.

“These student-athletes represent the best at the collegiate level and have honored the Creator’s game with their previous play,” said Andy Phillips, president of the Tewaaraton Foundation. “We look forward to them reaching new heights this season for both them and their teammates.”

Brower, an All-ACC and All-America selection a year ago, is the anchor of Duke’s close defense. A two-year team captain, the Massapequa, N.Y. native is tied for the team lead in caused turnovers in four of three games. He has also picked up five globetrotters.

The fastest player in Duke men’s lacrosse history to reach 100 goals, O’Neill currently headlines the Duke offense with nine goals and seven assists for 16 points. He recently recorded his 13th five-point game and 21st career hat trick with five goals in Jacksonville. O’Neill’s 145 points are tied for 32nd in Duke history.

The 13th-ranked Blue Devils are 2-1 overall and return home to host Denver on Friday at 4 p.m. ESPNU will televise the game with Chris Cotter and Quint Kessenich.
