Men’s Tennis Sweep ACC Weekly Awards – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

APARTMENTS Georgia Tech has received both ACC Mens Tennis Weekly Awards, as announced at the conference on Tuesday. Marcus McDaniel has been named the ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week along with the ACC Men’s Tennis Doubles Team with teammate, Andres Martin.

ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

As an unranked player, McDaniel defeated two of the NCAA’s top 20 singles players last weekend. On Friday, he beat No. 8 South Carolina’s No. 12 Connor Thomson 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Prior to the match, Thomson was undefeated in singles play with a 6-0 singles record.

McDaniel won Sunday’s singles against No. 13 Georgia and the Citadel. He earned another upset as he defeated Georgias No. 8 Philip Henning in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. The junior defeated Citadels Hayden Shoemake by decision 6-0, 6-2.

McDaniel is currently 10-1 in dual meets and 4-2 against nationally ranked opponents.

ACC Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week

No. 60 Martin and McDaniel went 2-0 last weekend, with both wins coming against nationally ranked doubles pairings.

In Friday’s game against South Carolina, the duo was down 4-2 before tying it 4-4 with third-place Connor Thomson and Toby Samuel. The two doubles pairings were forced into a tiebreak as Martin and McDaniel pulled off the upset at 7-6. [7-5] win.

The Tech duo also defeated Georgias No. 24 Ethan Quinn and Trent Bryde in a quick 6-2 finish.

Martin and McDaniel are on an eight-match winning streak and currently have an 8-1 record in dual meets.
