The third day ends for the Dukes in the CCSA championships as the second in the field

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. James Madison wrapped up day three of four at the 2022-23 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association swimming and diving championships on the second field Friday night at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.

The Dukes have scored 910 points, which tops the Liberty with 96.5 points. Queens is third with 767 points, followed by FGCU with 612 points and UNC Asheville with 609 points to round out the top five in the 11-team field.

Preliminaries

• As the third day began, six Dukes qualified for the finals of the 100 back. Madison Cottrell led to the group A final with a time of 54.74. Cameron Gring (55.18), Sydni Diehl (55,69), Alaina Park (55,74) goes to the B final and Emily Dracopoulos (56.15) and Lauren Aylmer (56,56) will compete in the C-final.
• In the first breaststroke event of the SM series Devan Taylor posted the team’s fastest time in the 100 Breast all season at 1:04.01. Abby Zindler recorded time 1.05.45.
• Jess Pryne placed second in the 200 Fly in 2:03.27 to advance to the finals. Angela Ritchie finished third at the start (2:04.76) and followed Abby Maguire sixth (2:07.41) to the final of all three.

Finals

• To the team Karen Siddoway, Jamie Cornwell, Grace Bousum and Jordyn Schnell swim a time of 7:22:30 in the 800 free relay to secure a bronze medal.
• Cottrell earned her second individual medal of the championships, taking back the silver in the 100 in 54.19. Gring and Park finished first and third in the B-final with a time of 54.54 and 55.15. In the C final, Aylmer finished second with a time of 55.81 and Drakopoulos fifth with a time of 56.23.
• Ritchie earned his first medal of the four-day event, winning bronze in the 200 Fly in 2:00.39. Pryne finished sixth with a time of 2:02.20 in the same heat as Ritchie. In the C final, Maguire finished second with a time of 2:06.84.

The Dukes look to finish strong as they are back for the fourth and final day of the CCSA Championships on Saturday, February 18th. Preliminaries start at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. Events include 100 Free, 1650 Free, 200 Back, 200 Break, 400 Free Relay and 1 Meter Board.
