Elite 2024 EDGE series for second visit, QB card expands?

One of the top recruits in the 2024 class is expected to visit Michigan football, along with the latest on quarterback recruiting.

As disappointing as the 2023 recruiting class may have been for Michigan football, at least relative to playoff expectations, the Wolverines are off to a strong start in 2024 and look to bounce back.

Michigan football already has five verbal commitments in 2024 and a trio of blue-chippers. More may be on the way, especially with the recent hiring of Chris Partridge, who brings another dynamic recruiting force to the Wolverines staff.

Partridge played a huge role in getting Rashan Gary back in the day, and he’s reopening that pipeline to New Jersey.

Elsewhere in the 2024 class, Michigan football looks to make progress with one of the top EDGE prospects in 2024, and it’s working as Dlyan Stewart is expected to take a second visit to the Michigan football program, per EJ Holland of The Wolverine.

At 235 pounds in Washington DC, Stewart is the top EDGE in the On3 consensus rankings and the No. 23 overall prospect in the 2024 class.

South Carolina, Maryland, Penn State, Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama and all the key players are in the mix. However, Michigan has done a great job of developing EDGE prospects and this unofficial visit in March would be huge.

If that leads to an official visit later this cycle, Michigan football could have a realistic shot at landing the five-star prospect.

Another QB to watch in 2024?

The key question for the 2024 recruiting class is whether Michigan football can land a high-caliber quarterback. Jadyn Davis has been a top target, and the Wolverines have all the expert predictions in their favor, but he’s delaying his decision.

It was just reported this week that Davis will visit Michigan this spring. However, the all-eggs-in-one-basket approach hasn’t worked out very well for the Wolverines. It didn’t work out in 2023, so it was good to see a new QBs coach Kirk Campbell is in contact with Michael Van Buren, according to a report from The Wolverine.

Van Buren is out of St. Frances Academy in Maryland and is a top 100 prospect. He’s ranked No. 70 overall and No. 8 among quarterbacks. He’d be a perfect fit for Michigan, and if the Wolverines don’t land Davis, he’d be a great consolation prize.

In fact, some even like him more than Davis. We’ll see how active Michigan is in recruiting Van Buren, but it’s good to see the board expand a bit and not all focus on Davis moving things forward.
