WINONA, Minns. – For the second straight night, the Winona State women’s tennis team made short work of an NSIC opponent, defeating the University of Minnesota Crookston 6-1 on Saturday, February 18 at the Winona Tennis Center.
The Warriors add a win to their NSIC win total after outlasting Bemidji State on Friday and easily outlasting the Golden Eagles on Saturday. He played singles and went 5-1 in singles.
In doubles, Winona State captured the doubles point with sweeps at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3. The Warriors posted identical 6-1 doubles victories with Rachel Kelly and Ally Burger playing at No. 2 doubles, while Miranda Daulong and Maddie Moe won at No. 3. Sara Anderson and Beth Murman won doubles number 1. The situation is 6-3.
In singles, Rachel Kelly opened the Warrior scoring with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2. Warrior teammate Miranda Daulong followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6, followed by Ally Burger. beat No. 5 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory. Burger’s win was soon followed by Rachel Anderson, who defeated her opponent at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-4. Winona State’s Maddie Moe rebounds to defeat her opponent at No. 4 singles 4-6, 7-5, 10-5.
Minnesota Crookston avoided a sweep in the No. 1 match that went down to the wire as Beth Murman downed UMC’s Madeleine Schneider 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-10.
Winona State (3-0 overall, 3-0 NSIC) exits conference play on Sunday, Feb. 26, in its next game when it hosts NCAA Division I opponent Northern Illinois University. The Warriors and Huskies kick off at 4pm at the Winona Tennis Center.
