Men’s tennis beat Cleveland State 6-1

BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton men’s tennis took a hammering, losing to visiting Cleveland State 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Lane-Starke Tennis Center.

Senior No. 2 Michael Pawlowicz posted a three-setter in the win for BU. Pawlowicz and his opponent shared two tiebreaks before Pawlowicz won the third set in a super tiebreak.

“Cleveland played some great tennis this weekend … they came out in doubles and made it difficult for us to get our teeth into the match,” head coach Nick Zieziula said. “It was a huge weekend for Michael (Pawlowicz) … a big doubles tie with James on Friday and then both of his singles matches. Besides his results, he really stepped up and played tennis on his own terms, which was great to see. The next two weeks are really important for us in terms of development, so we can learn from almost the first half of the season and fine-tune things before conference play.”

The Bearcats next host Niagara on March 2nd.

“We really appreciate all the support at Lane-Starke this weekend,” added Zieziula. “It was a great environment to play in and definitely helped us get over the hump especially against Bryant. We’re looking forward to Niagara and Colgate at home.”
