Philadelphia – The Temple women’s tennis team (4-1) hosts the FDU Knights (0-3) on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 10:30 a.m. The match will be played at the Legacy Tennis Center in Philadelphia.

OWLS:

  • Temple is coming off a nine-day layoff, most recently defeating Wagner 7-0 on Feb. 12 to win its third straight.
  • In the match against Wagner, the Owls showed dominance, not allowing a point in both doubles matches. Placement duo for 6th place Maiko Uchijima and Jamie Wei plus No. 55 Evie Wei and Veronika Kulhava were able to win over the Wagner couples.
  • So far this spring, the Owls have seen some great singles players as well as some success in doubles. Maiko Uchijima (6-1), Jamie Wei (4-0) and a newcomer Thamara Fraser Kawaratani (3-1) leads the team in singles wins.

Patrol of the Knights:

  • Last season, the Knights finished with a 9-7 record and went 3-1 in conference play. In the NEC Championship Series, FDU reached the championship round after defeating St. Francis and Sacred Heart before losing to Bryant in the championship round.
  • FDU began the spring facing tough opponents out of the gate, facing St. John’s, NJIT and most recently Rutgers on Sunday, February 12th.
  • The Knights competed in four different invitationals in the fall. FDU freshman Valentina Silva quickly impressed the masses by earning NEC Rookie of the Month honors in October. He began his Knight’s campaign with two wins at the Hofstra Invitational in singles.
