Lancers win Game 1 over Badgers in men’s hockey quarterfinals

Box Score St. Catharines – The Brock Badgers lost 3-1 to the Windsor Lancers in Game 1 of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) quarter-final playoffs at Canada Games Park on Thursday, February 23rd.

The Lancers capitalized early with Jaydon Fetter’s power play goal just a minute into the game.

Windsor added to their lead in the second period with a goal by Barrett Dachyshyn before Brock’s goal Adam Berg converted the input from the object Justin Brack 52 seconds to third.

The Badgers pulled a goaltender Roman Basran for the extra hitter, but couldn’t beat Lancer netminder Nathan Torchia, who finished the game with 30 saves. Basran stopped 26 shots for Brock.

Grant Spence added the empty netter.

After earning a bye in the first round of the playoffs, the Lancers hadn’t played in nearly two weeks. Meanwhile, the Badgers swept the Laurier Golden Hawks in three games, winning 4-1 in Game 3 of the first round on February 19.

The Badgers next travel to Windsor’s Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex for Game 2 of the OUA quarterfinals on Saturday, February 25 at 7:30 p.m. The Lancers will also host Game 3 if necessary on Sunday, February 26 at 7 p.m. in a live stream game OUA.tv.
