Men’s tennis sweep Southern Miss, 7-0 — LSU

Baton Rouge, The. – The LSU men’s tennis team (6-1) defeated Southern Miss (4-5) 7-0 on Saturday, February 25 at the LSU Tennis Complex.

Double up

Chen Dong and Welsh Hotard took on Alan Sanson and Alexander Gima in second place. The Tigers won 6-3.

The pair of No. 24 Nick Watson and Stefan Latinovic faced Shamirul Shahril and Dakotah Bobo on Court No. 1. The duo battled hard but fell 4-6.

George Stoupe and Julien Penzlin competed against Saheb Sodhi and Olimjon Nabiev. The Tigers grabbed the double point with a 7-5 win. LSU took a 1-0 lead.

Singles

In 1st place, Latinovic faced Bobo. Tiger took the match quickly and won 6-1, 6-2. LSU’s score advanced to 2-0.

Penzlin competed against Sodhi on court No. 5. Tiger won in straight sets 7-5, 6-2, making LSU 3-0.

At No. 6, Benjamin Ambrosio faced Pawin Jirapoomdaje, who won the match in straight sets 6-3, 6-0. LSU’s lead was 4-0.

Hotard took the court against Nabiev at No. 3. Tiger struck quickly in the first set, 6-0. In the second set, Hotard won the match 7-6(2). LSU’s lead grew to 5-0.

In Court No. 2, Dong sued Shahril. The first set went to Golden Eagle 6-4 before Dong came back to tie the second set 6-4. In a 10-point tiebreaker, Tiger secured the match 10-6 and made LSU’s score 6-0.

Stoupe competed against Sanson on court No. 4. Tiger took the set 7-6(3) before winning the match 6-4 in the second set. LSU’s score ended 7-0.

Next

The Tigers will host UL-Lafayette at 12:00 PM and New Orleans at 5:00 PM on Sunday, February 25th at the LSU Tennis Complex. Free pizza will be served during the UL-Lafayette game.
