Aggies Sweep High Jump on Final Day of SEC Championships – Texas A&M Athletics

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Ushan Perera and Dist’s event won SEC titles in the high jump for the Texas A&M men’s and women’s track and field teams on day two of the SEC Indoor Championships on Saturday.

Perera took the win with a clearance of 7-4.25/2.24m, edging out defending champion Roberto Vilches of Missouri. Perera won his second straight high jump event after making his Aggie debut at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational. The mark is his second-best this season and tied for the third-best performance in school history.

Two-time high jump champion Dist’s event won her third straight SEC title after clearing 6-4.75/1.95m Distin led a trio of Aggie women’s high jumpers Ally Andress cleared 5-10.75/1.80 m and tied for sixth and Bára Sajdoková finished eighth after clearing 5-9.75/1.77 m. Distin’s mark is no. 2 jump in school history, second only to his own Tiger Paw Invitational school record.

In the women’s 400 meters Robinson-Jones Country earned bronze with a personal best of 51.27. The time tops his fastest by nearly a full second and makes him the fifth-best performance in school history. Jermaisha Arnold finished seventh in the event with a 52.05 to add two points to the Aggies’ score.

Connor Schulman added another bronze for the Aggies when he finished third in the 60-meter hurdles in 7.73. The race ended in a photo finish, but Schulman prevailed as he won his first SEC medal.

In the men’s mile, Gavin Hoffpauir finished fifth in the Mile and stormed home to cross the line in 4:05.43.

A shot putter Bryce Foster earned sixth place with a throw of 61-7.75/18.79m, No. 6 in school history. This was Foster’s first race since his ACL repair in October.

Freshman heptathlon duo Landon Helms and Blake Harris finished seventh and ninth in the two-day event. Helms recorded three personal bests en route to a score of 5492, the fourth-best performance in school history, while Harris tallied five personal bests for a score of 5472, making her the No. 6 performer in school history.

The day ended with the men’s 4×400 m team Eric Hemphill IIIDeMarco Escobar, Cutler Zamzow and Ashton Schwartzman 3.06.06 finishing fifth in the overall competition.

In the men’s team competition, Arkansas won the meet with 100.25 points, while the Aggies finished 10th with a total of 42 points.

On the women’s side, Arkansas won with 130.5 points, while the Aggies finished with 26.5 points for 10th place.
