Men’s and women’s swimming and diving finished third at the ECAC championships

ANNAPOLIS, Dr. — Members of the Columbia men’s and women’s swim teams traveled to Maryland to compete in the 2023ECAC Swim & Dive Championships hosted by the Naval Academy this weekend. Both teams performed brilliantly at the event, placing third after three full days of competition which began on Friday.

The men’s team finished with 392 points. Navy won the event with 814.5 points. Buckenell finished second with 416 points.

The Lady Lions finished the competition with 386 points. Navy (546) and Bucknell (503) also moved up in the top two on the women’s side.

The highlight of the event came when the men’s senior diver Casey Fellows was crowned ECAC Diver of the Meet after winning both the 1m and 3m dives. After winning the 1m boards on day one, she completed a sweep of 355.35 on 3m, making herself an easy choice for this award.

Other highlights on the men’s side of the final two days included a gold medal Caleb Apodaca 400-IM (3:51.14) and silver Seth Roach 200 fly (1:47.34).

Meanwhile, for the ladies Jessica Peng was a star. He won a silver medal in the 200 fly with a time of 2:03.61 and also has a fourth place finish in the 100 fly. Columbia’s other top-three finisher was Tine Le, who won bronze in the 100 free with a time of 51.25.

In the final event of the night, both the men and women wrapped up the ECAC Championships in exciting fashion. It was the 400 free relay, and the women earned a silver medal as a team Mother Le, Jessica Peng, Taylor Whangand Callie Broadertime 3:26.88. The men finished fourth in the competition.
