Wizards topped the Wisbech Table Tennis League Premier League

Wizards went top of the Wisbech Table Tennis League Premier Division with a win against Elsworth.

In a competitive match, they survived with a 7-3 win and man of the match Brett Heppenstall.

Alan Ashberry and Grant Brightey also scored twice. For the Eagles, Owen Turner and Paul Rich each won one.

A surprising two-man Elsworth team still had too much for the Inbetweeners, winning 6-4.

Dan Fielding won all his games convincingly, including the singles with Shaun Murray.

Murray won two but only lost to a very good five head win from Derek Kiddle.

In the battle below, Nets & Edges won a valuable 6-4 against Exiles.

Steve Goodale got an impressive maximum, supported by Adrian Alvarez-Domingo and Freddie Reed, who both had good wins over Jim Defty. The Exiles kept the match close with two each from Don Dixon and Steve Barrett.

David Lemmon’s maximum kept the Trojans in the match with Pegg Scaffolding. Steve Mason had an important win over Peter Pegg before they both settled for a 5-5 draw in the doubles.

For Pegg, Martin Skipper and Jack Mason both scored twice, and Peter Pegg’s winner from John Blyth ensured a draw.

In the first division, Warlords beat 5 Stars B 10-0.

Kevin Buck, Guntars Briedis and Peter Munch all scored maximum points.

Wanderers took on Spartans and Andy Bayes made the difference again with his maximum as Spartans won 6-4.

Graham Sheppard and Gordon Lyttle beat Mike Smith. Wanderers’ scores came from Steve Kent and David Nicholas.

The Ramblers topped 5 Stars A with a 6-4 win. Tim Hines got the maximum, while he was well supported by Mark Spinks (2) and Judy Hodgson.

5 Stars A kept themselves in the hunt with two wins from Paul Gay and Kerry Smith.

The Stingers are pushing hard for the title and they didn’t do themselves a disservice by beating the Batman 8-2. Igors Scekalevs and Chris Gay got their maximum.

For the Batmen, Mark Littlechild and Jeff Chung, each with one win, took their points, but the Batmen were also unlucky to lose most of the close games.
