NM State claims second at Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate

HENDERSON, Nev. The NM State men’s golf team played their best last as they combined to shoot 10 under par on the final day at Reflection Bay Golf Club. The star near the three-day event gave them a total score of 851 (-13) to finish second at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate.

Freshman Javier Delgadillo turned in NM State’s best three-round score as he shot a 207 (-9) to finish in a tie for third after a 68 (-4) on Wednesday, his lowest score of the week. This also marked Delgadillo’s first top-10 finish in his debut season with the Aggies.

Aidan Thomas’ The 208 (-8) marked the Aggies’ second-best individual performance as the junior from Albuquerque, NM, finished fifth in the event. On Wednesday, Thomas repeated his 71 (-1) from Tuesday as he secured his third top-five finish of the season.

Garrison Smith also joined Delgadillo and Thomas in the top 10 as he shot a final round 65 (-7) to finish tied for ninth overall with a 213 (-3). The 65 also tied with Smith and Long Beach State’s Jack Cantlay for the bottom round among 96 individuals among colleges.

Final circular notes

  • As a team, the Aggies posted the second-lowest score of the day as they combined to shoot 10 strokes under par. At just 42nd, Little Rock’s score was lower as they finished the day 15-under.
  • by Garrison Smith The 65 included six birdies, one eagle and just one bogey. Smith also jumped 27 spots on the final day in Nevada, marking the biggest increase in rankings of any player on the final day.
  • The Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate marked the first time the Aggies had three golfers finish in the top 10 since NM State hosted the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate on Oct. 18, 2022.
  • NM State’s 3.10 average score on par threes this week was the best performance of all 15 programs. Aidan Thomas an event-leading average of 2.67 on threes directly contributed to the Aggies’ success.
  • Meanwhile, Javier Delgadillo finished with six under par in four weeks and posted the lowest average this week (3.80).
