Cleveland State Women’s Tennis continues its spring slate against West Virginia and Howard Athletics

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women’s tennis team continues its 2023 spring streak with two matches this weekend, traveling to Morgantown, W.Va., to face West Virginia on Saturday, March 4, and Howard on Sunday, March 5.

Cleveland State enters the weekend on a two-game mini-game winning streak, picking up wins over Buffalo (4-3) and St. Bonaventure (7-0) most recently. The win over the Bulls was the first in program history, while the sweep of the Bonnies was the Vikings’ third of the season.

This weekend’s games conclude a six-game road swing for the Vikings, who have played the last four weeks on the road. The matches are also the first and second of only three matches in March, with Cleveland State’s final match of the month coming on Saturday, March 25, when the Vikings host Dayton at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.

Last time out, the trio of Filippa Frogner, Sima Heren and Oihane Vicario all went 2-0 in singles, and all three Vikings now own double-digit singles wins on the year.

Bethany Yauch got one win closer to 50 in her career last weekend when she picked up the win against St. Bonaventure to mark win No. 48 during Cleveland State.

CSU played a strong doubles game last time out and grabbed an early point in both matches as the Vikings have now won 10 of their 12 matches this season by doubles.

Cleveland State’s top doubles team Sima Heren and Yauch were named the Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week on Wednesday, earning their first weekly honor of the season. The duo went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles last time and improved to 7-4 at the top of the lineup this spring.
