Hruby will take top honors at the 2023 Lamkin San Diego Classic

SAN DIEGO, California The 2023 Lamkin San Diego Classic concluded Tuesday after three rounds of two-day competition, with the top-performing Husky holding the trophy. Petr Hrubywho started the day in even par, won medalist honors by four strokes and finished the tournament at 12 under when he shot 3 under in the final round.

The victory is the first career tournament victory for Hruby, who participated in the top five in four previous games. This is the first time the Huskies have won the tournament since then Noah Woolsey won the Pac-12 championship last year.

“Really happy and proud of Petri,” said the UW coach Alan Murray. “His abilities have never been in doubt, but it was all about coming together and he did it in style this week.”

Washington’s team total was 857 strokes, 7 under par, good for third place among competing teams. New Mexico (20-under 844) and tournament host San Diego State (19-under 845) ranked ahead of the Huskies.

Hruby had a strong opening round to start the tournament on Monday. He made four birdies through Round 1, but in the second round he established himself as one of the leaders. The senior finished 8 under par and collected eight birdies over the second round. Hruby collected three birdies in the last round, two of which came consecutively on holes 14 and 15.

“He played so well and was so calm, never flustered and showed amazing poise and composure to go along with a monster game of golf,” Murray added. – He has shown what he can do, and I know he is hungry for more after this week.

A strong last round from the senior Bo Peng carded a 5-under-par 67 to help UW finish in the top three. Peng’s score, which included a pair of eagles, was the low round of the day, and his jump of 36 places in the player standings from his second round standing was the largest of any player in the field.

“Great round from Bolt, he had a blast and showed great resilience to bounce back from a frustrating first day. Hopefully he’ll take a lot of confidence from it.”

YOUR junior Teddy Lin and a freshman Joshua Koo posted identical scores of 5-over 221 and divided them into 38s^th place. Taeho’s song also tied with another Husky Robert Galliganwho competed as an individual in Zone 6 over three rounds, in ’43^rd place.

The next time the Huskies see the tournament at The Goodwin is March 30-April 1 in Stanford, California.
