Men’s and Women’s Tennis Beat Alcorn State

NEW ORLEANS The New Orleans Privateers men’s and women’s tennis teams both defeated the Alcorn State Braves on Tuesday afternoon at the Privateer Tennis Center.

MEN’S SUMMARY
NEW ORLEANS-7 ALCORN STATE-0

The Privateers got two wins by retiring an opponent in a 7-0 win against the Braves on Tuesday.

Karim Al-Amin and Espen Lagarde both won without a full second set. Al-Amin’s opponent stopped the match after the first round ended for Al-Amin 6-2. Lagarde’s opponent lost the first game of the second set before calling it a day.

Mihajlo Drobnjakovic made his singles season debut and broke late in the first set against Isaac Santitto. Then Drobnjakovic carried the momentum and won the second set with one break, 6-4, 6-4.

Max Heinzel didn’t drop a game in singles as he won 6-0, 6-0. Luke Joujan won the first set tiebreak en route to a straight decision. Lilian Dubois lost only three games in his singles match.

Luka Andronov and Arne Sohmer won their singles 6-4. The Privateers played two more matches in doubles.

WOMEN’S SUMMARY
NEW ORLEANS-6 ALCORN STATE-1

Starting in the third flight, the rotation had to be flexible in the third set as they were pushed to the limit at several points in the singles.

Anastasia Kouchnareva, Tristane Dechoux and Kateryna Kalistratova all won three-set decisions in singles. Kouchnareva and Kalistratova both won their third set with single breaks, while Dechoux dominated her third set 6-1.

Didi Bredberg Canizares continues his streak in singles as he dropped just one game en route to victory in the first flight. Laurie Barendse also won his match dropping just one game in the afternoon.

Jaime Edwards scored the only point for the Braves when he scored a tiebreaker in the third.

The Privateers won the singles point with finishing flourishes on the first and second courts. Dechoux and Barendse won the first flight 6-1. Bredberg and Raluca Puskas finished their matches without losing a single game in doubles.

The Privateer men will face Nicholls on Wednesday in Thibodaux at 2:30 p.m. The women face Bryant at home on March 14 at 2:00 p.m.
