Eastern Illinois women’s tennis returns to action this week as the Panthers host Chicago State on Friday at the Danville Tennis Center beginning at 2:30 p.m. EIU won three games in a row last week and improved to 7-7 on the season.
The Panthers won a pair of matches at the Danville Tennis Center against Millikin before a road win over IUPUI on Sunday night.
Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova was named OVC Player of the Week after earning the honor for the second time this season. Madeline Monroe and Brittany Steven was named to the OVC Doubles Team of the Week for her efforts, which marked the second time this season.
Bukraba-Ulanova improved to 10-4 on the season, moving into a tie with Grace Summers for third on the EIU record book with 23 career singles victories. He has won a career-high 33 singles matches during his four-year career at EIU.
Monroy and Steven improved to 8-5 in doubles this season and were 3-0 in doubles last week. They are tied for the team lead in double wins against Bukraba-Ulanova and Christine Gows who have eight wins at No. 1 doubles.
In singles, Monroy has the longest active streak for the Panthers with five consecutive singles wins. Monroy is 7-7 on the season, with his last loss coming Feb. 18 at Bradley. He has won five consecutive games in the singles ranking between No. 3 and No. 5.
EIU will face Chicago State for the 22nd time with the Panthers leading the all-time series 17-4. CSU won last year’s contest and enters the weekend 7-11 this season.
EIU will travel to Florida for a Spring Break game early next week before Ohio Valley Conference play next weekend at home.
