USC Womens Tennis Falls 4-1 to UCLA in a non-conference match

ANGELS The USC women’s tennis team struggled to find momentum as the Trojans fell 4-1 in a non-conference match against crosstown rival UCLA on Thursday night at David X. Marks Tennis Stadium. The race was completed after being postponed three times earlier due to rain.

In a matchup of top 25 teams, UCLA’s No. 10 Hance/Wagleduo won the first four games for a 6-2 victory against No. 24. Naomi Cheong and Snow Han. USC responded in Court 2 at No. 34 Eryn Cayetano and Madison’s victory halted Tian/Catanzarite’s comeback attempt for a 6-3 victory on court 2. This turned all eyes to court 3, where Ong/Vagram got two service breaks out of the gate and used them for a decisive 6-3 victory over the Trojans. Emma Charney and Nathalie Rodiloso.

The first five innings of singles went against the Trojans. The unfortunate situation brought down the Trojans 0-2, when 4. Maddy Sieg had to stop in midfield. Well. 63 Fangran Tian (UCLA) led 6-3, 1-0 when he retired.

No. 39 Eryn Cayetano cut the Trojans’ deficit in half as she cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory against No. 76 Ava Catanzariteon on Court 3. No. 95 Kimmi Hance responded for the Bruins with a No. 61 Snow Han losing 6-2, 6-3 on Court 2 to make it 3-1. The match was decided on the sixth court when Vanessa Ong was able to hold McKenna Koenig away, followed his 6-1 first set with a 6-3 second to seal the total. Ong has now won four consecutive singles matches, each coming in straight sets.

USC returns to action on Saturday when the Trojans host Dartmouth and Princeton in a doubleheader at Marks Stadium. The matches will be played at 10 am and 2 pm
