It’s rare that a team’s opening game can be season-defining, but for FSU, it just might be.

Picking the opener as the season-defining game is always tough, as the College Football Playoff era has seen teams overcome early losses and finish in the top four. But LSU A game in Orlando seems like an easy option here, and we can point to last season as the reason. There were a lot of questions about the Seminoles heading into the season, and none of them centered around whether they could win 10 games. But beating LSU in New Orleans showed that this would be a different Florida State team and a different season. A loss there, and who knows what will happen. Now this 2023 opener could be even bigger as both teams have high expectations. The hype is there for Florida State, and a win would only continue the hype train. — Andrea Adelson

FSU’s hot start and ability to continue to land high-profile recruits on campus has led FSU fans and media to see visions of a top-five class.

This could end up being a top five for Mike Norvell if he wins the ACC and gets the Seminoles into the College Football Playoff. First, this doesn’t appear to be a cycle where FSU uses the transfer portal as much as it has in the past, with a number of high-profile recruits interested in the program coming off a 10-win season. This will help FSU in the math and recruiting team overall rankings.
