Person of interest arrested in shooting outside hookah lounge near Temple University; 3 women were injured

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Philadelphia police are interested in arresting a person after a shooting that injured several people outside a hookah lounge near Temple University’s campus.

Investigators say the shooting happened before 3 a.m. outside the Hubble Bubble Hookah Lounge in the 1000 block of Diamond Street.

The lounge is under an off-campus apartment building and across the street from the soccer team’s practice facility.

Authorities say guards kicked the man out of the hookah room when he pulled out his gun. A security guard present shot him and hit him in the left side.

The man was able to fire his gun and shoot three women in the living area. Police say all three are in stable condition, and none were Temple University students.

According to the authorities, the man is interested in the case and is currently in custody.

“Just another day. You know, it happens here,” said Pablo Rouco, a sophomore.

According to the university, both Temple and Philadelphia police responded to the shooting.

“I heard it when I woke up this morning, but like I don’t know, I’ve never really felt unsafe on campus,” said Aldrich Solomon, a senior who lives in Apex on Diamond, the apartment building where the shooting happened. happened

This shooting is the latest in a string of violent crimes on or around campus.

On Friday afternoon, police arrested someone who brought a loaded gun into Morgan Hall.

Thursday night, a 25-year-old was seriously injured in a stabbing at 12th and Diamond streets.

In February, Temple police officer Christopher Fitzgerald was killed while patrolling around campus.

“My mom is always sending Keep Us Safe TU messages and she’s like, ‘What are we going to do? Can you transfer?’ And I’m like, ‘We’re just so far, and I really like the friends that I’ve made here,” said sophomore Jaimie Harley. “And it’s just sad that we have to walk around feeling unsafe all the time. “

As Temple’s community deals with crime, the faculty union is considering a vote of no confidence in university leadership, including President Jason Wingard.

“It’s just such a violent city, and I don’t know if leadership really has much to do with it. If you had another person in President Wingard’s position, what else could you do?” said Colby Duffy, junior.

“Is this safe for me here? And I love Temple and I love going to school here, but it’s not worth dying? Or getting shot,” said sophomore Natalie Green.
