Bison roll past Mavericks in Summit League opener, 10-2

OMAHA, Neb. – The North Dakota State baseball team scored six runs in the eighth inning to help seal a 10-2 victory over Omaha to start Summit League play Friday night at Tal Anderson Field.

Both teams will now play a doubleheader starting at 2pm tomorrow due to the expected inclement weather on Sunday. Both matches are nine innings.

After Omaha (6-9, 0-1 Summit) started the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning, NDSU (4-17, 1-0 Summit) took the lead in the second inning, posting three innings on four hits. score 3-1 after two runs Cadyn Schwabe.

The contest then went scoreless through five innings until the Bison erupted for six runs on four hits in the eighth inning to extend their lead to 9-1. Davis Hamilton sparked NDSU with a two-RBI double to right field. Kyle Law followed that earlier with an RBI single Will Busch and Law each scored unearned runs after a throwing error.

Schwabe ended the eighth inning with an unearned run Peter Brookshaw grounded to the pitcher. Jack Steep helped put the game out of reach and scored a run on a wild pitch in the ninth to make it 10-1. NDSU closed out the final frame to take a 10-2 victory.

The Bison combined for 13 hits on a team with four different players contributing at least two. It was the fourth straight game in which NDSU has had at least 10 hits. Hamilton paced the Bison going 3-of-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Cade Feeney (1-3) earned the win on the mound with a season-high 7.0 innings with four strikeouts and one walk. Joey Danielson finished with four strikeouts over the last 2.0 innings.
