According to ESPNCricinfo, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has selected 12 venues for the event, including hotspots like Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. The tournament is packed with 48 matches over 46 days.

However, the BCCI is yet to reveal which cities will host the warm-up matches or the main events due to complications due to the fluctuating monsoon seasons in the country. The BCCI is also awaiting necessary clearances from the Indian government, including tax exemption and visa clearance for the Pakistan team.

Despite the delay, the BCCI has promised the ICC that the Pakistan team will get visas. At the ICC’s quarterly meetings held last weekend in Dubai, the BCCI assured the global body that the Indian government would sort out the team’s visas for the tournament.

Apart from the visa clearance, the BCCI is also expected to provide the ICC with an update on the exact stand of the Indian government on the tax exemption. This exemption was part of the host agreement signed between the BCCI and the ICC in 2014, which included the 2016 ICC T20 World Cup, the 2018 Champions Trophy (later changed to the 2021 T20 World Cup) and the 2023 50-over World Cup. .

According to the agreement, the BCCI was “obliged” to assist the ICC (and all its commercial partners involved in the tournament) in securing tax exemption. Last year, India’s tax authorities notified the ICC that it would be charged a 20 percent tax (without surcharges) on the 2023 World Cup’s broadcast revenue.

However, the BCCI has promised to adjust any taxes the ICC may incur from the Indian government’s income from the ICC’s central revenue pool. BCCI estimates that the 10.92 percent tax provision would result in an “economic impact” of about $58.23 million, while the 21.84 percent tax component would double that figure to about $116.47 million.
