From Cincinnati Falls to Xavier – University of Cincinnati Athletics

CINCINNATI The University of Cincinnati women’s tennis team fell to Xavier 4-3 at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center on Sunday.

Cincinnati started the action with a great game in doubles, reaching the opening point for the second time in the last three matches. The Bearcats grabbed the momentum with early leads in all three doubles spots before Xavier answered with a win on the second court. Sophomore top tandem Callie Flanagan and a redshirt junior Cassie McLay required Court One 6-4 to push the decision to Court 3.

Redshirt junior Sofia Bruno and a sophomore Elizabeth Pendergast battled back to erase a small deficit and secured a seven-point tiebreak on the third court, 7-6 (5), to take the double point.

Xavier won the match on the best four singles court. Flanagan won the fifth court in a third set tie 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (2), while Ferguson won the sixth court 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

Cincinnati returns to action when it hosts Northern Kentucky on Wednesday, March 29 at 3 PM ET.
