Navarra was named MAC Pitcher of the Week

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. Central Michigan Garrett Navarra has been named the Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week after pitching for Chippewa’s 2-1 win over Kent State on Sunday.

Navarra, a grad student left-hander from Sterling Heights, threw seven shutout innings in the win, giving the Chippewas the series win.

Navarra allowed two hits in the first inning, then struck out 11 straight batters and 14 of the next 15. Kent State’s last three hits off Navarre were infield singles and he struck out nine while walking just one as he improved to 2-2 on the season. .

After taking two of the three Golden Flashes, Chippewa and Kent State are tied for second in the MAC at 4-2. Ball State leads the conference at 8-1.

CMU, 13-9 overall, heads to Michigan on Tuesday, March 28 (4:00 p.m.) for a non-conference game before entertaining Bowling Green in a three-game MAC series at Theunissen Stadium on Friday, March 31 (3:00 p.m.).
