Men’s tennis sweeps UC Riverside for Open Big West

HONOLULU – The University of Hawaii men’s tennis team (7-5, 1-0 Big West) opened its Big West season with a 4-0 sweep over UC Riverside on Tuesday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex. Due to the threat of rain, the match started with singles.

68th in Hawaii Andre Ilagan led by winning his eighth straight match at the top of the order, defeating UC Riverside’s Daniel Velek in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. On field no. 6, UH Kilian Maitreknocked off UCR’s Ryan Huynh 7-5, 6-1 and UH’s 3rd. Axel Labruniecruise past Antreas Djakouris, 6-4, 6-2. Hawaii’s no. 5 Lucas Labrunie won the match, beating Highlanders’ Aarav Sane in three, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

The Rainbow Warriors continue their final home stretch with two conference games this week. On Friday, March 31, the ‘Bows will face UC San Diego and on Saturday, April 1 against UC Irvine. First serve for both matches is scheduled for 1:00 PM HT at the UH Tennis Complex.
