Clinton Moodley Cricket Academy (CMCA) in association with Scottburgh Country Club launched the Junior hardball cricket T20 league last Saturday.

Four teams participate in this league: CMCA Green Mambas, CMCA Red Devils, CMCA Rockets and Malangeni Cricket Club.
The opening match last weekend was clever. The Mambas beat the strong Red Devils, defeating them by one run. Mambas captain Rorke Harris won the toss and elected to bat. The Mambas scored a competitive 122 runs in their 20 overs. The batting contributions came from Shivaar Sivpersad 16 runs, Rorke Harris 13 runs, Arshaan Ishwarlal 10 runs and the rest of the batting contributed.

The Red Devils’ bowling figures were respectable. Deshan Pillay bowled 5 overs for 13 runs and took 2 wickets, Ryan Mansour’s 4 deliveries went for 20 runs and he took 1 wicket, Zayden Nagdee bowled 5 of his overs and conceded 31 runs while taking 2 wickets, Stefanie Garber bowled 202 overs. runs and claimed 1 wicket and finally Drogin Hall bowled 1 over not conceding any runs.

Red Devils captain Deshan Pillay assumed that this run would be scary. Opening the bowler for Mambai, Anton Bezuidenhout destroyed the Red Devils top order and took the first 4 wickets for 18 runs in his 5 over spell. His opening partner Shivaar Sivpersad claimed the next 4 scalps for 25 runs in his 5 overs. Captain Rorke bowled a decent spell conceding just 14 runs in his 3 overs. Caleb Turner and Shivesh Moodley bowled decently with Shivesh taking 1 wicket in nine overs.

The Red Devils’ star batsman, Chayton du Plessis regularly smashed the ball to the boundary. His boundary hitting included 6 fours and 2 sixes. He finished with 51 (35 balls).

Chayton and Deshan took the game to the last ball but Mambas captain Rorke held his nerve and bowled a superb last ball perfectly outside the off stump straight to wicketkeeper Cade Canham. The Mambas won the game by one run.
