Baseball heads north for Ivy Weekend at Dartmouth

HANOVER, NH Ivy League play continues this weekend as the University of Pennsylvania baseball team travels to New Hampshire for a three-game series with Dartmouth.

Series: Dartmouth

The first game is the 181st Penn vs. Dartmouth matchup. The series has historically been close, as the Big Green has a 91-87-2 record against the Quakers.

Penn is 11-5-1 against Dartmouth under the head coach John Yurkowincluding five out of six between 2019 and 2022.

Preview Penn

Penn has dropped three of its last four after going 9-4 in its past 13 contests, with its most recent outing coming in a 6-5 loss at Lafayette on Tuesday in the Liberty Bell Classic.

Davis Baker (.342), Ben Miller (.333) and Jackson Appel (.325) leads the Quaker lineup hitting .277 this season and has batted over .300 seven times.

The weekend starting rotation has all turned in quality starts this season, combining for 100 strikeouts in 77.1 innings and a 3.14 ERA.

Measuring the Big Green

Dartmouth enters the weekend on a nine-game losing streak, most recently beating Princeton 28-11 in three games last weekend.

Tyler Cox (.397) leads all Ancient Eight players in batting average, though the rest of the team is just .211 with Kolton Freeman (.289) and Elliot Krewson (.278) the only other Dartmouth hitters over .242.

The pitching staff has allowed at least 10 runs in seven games this season, including two of three against the Tigers last weekend. The weekend rotation of Trystan Sarcone, Jack Metzger and Eddie Albert has posted a combined 9.57 ERA in 13 starts.

Danny Will and Shane Bauer, the team’s two most-used relievers, made two appearances last weekend, combining for 5.2 innings and allowing four earned runs.
