PHILADELPHIA The University of Pennsylvania track and field programs will host their second meet of the outdoor season on Saturday, continuing the annual Big 5 Invitational at Franklin Field.

About the Big 5 Invitational
The event, hosted by the Quakers every outdoor season, will return for the 2023 season and host eight teams at Franklin Field. Joining Penn: La Salle, Saint Joseph’s, Temple, Villanova, Princeton, Monmouth and Rider. Throwing events begin the day at 12:00 p.m., at the Irving “Moon” Mondschein Throwing Complex, and the first event at Franklin Field begins at 3:30 p.m., with the pole vault and long jump.

Last year’s Big 5 invite

Penny’s last time
Penn split its teams into two separate meets this past weekend: the Raleigh Relays and the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational.
For the men, the highlight of the weekend was in North Carolina Dylan Throop erased the long-standing record in 1976 in the 10,000 meters. With a time of 28:48.59, Throop set the program record for the event, edging out former Quaker great Dave Merrick’s time of 28:49.2. Throop had many great performances in Raleigh, including a ninth-place finish Scott Dochat in the hammer throw. He threw 60.51 meters (198-6), which tied him for fourth in program history. In Miami, the men collected a pair of victories to hit the record books for the second time. One of the wins came on the track, as Penn secured the 4×400 meter relay with a time of 3:12.28 out of four. Andrew O’Donnell, Devante Heywood, Robbie Ruppeland Antaures Jackson. The second victory came in the indoor pole vault James Rhoads cleared at a height of 5.25 meters (17-2.75). The record book was hit in the 110 meter hurdles as a freshman Jake Rose took fifth in 14.22 and moved into 10th place in program history.
The women had two wins and posted program top-10 marks five times, including another program record Maeve Stiles. The junior added her third program record of the year, her first of the outdoor season, at the Raleigh Relays in the 10,000 meters. She clocked 33:49:19 to obliterate Cleo Whiting’s 2017 record time of 34:09:65. In Miami, one of the victories came in the women’s 100 meters as a freshmanMoforehan AbinusawaandChristiana Nwachukuwent first and second, respectivelyCaia Gelliranked 10th. Abinusawa ran 11.63 for the second time in program history, while Nwachuku finished fifth in the record books with 11.83. Also on the track, the women took victory in the 4×100 meter race, when Nwachuku, Abinusawa,Catherine MuccioandIsabella Whittakerthe teams run 45.60 for the fifth best time in program history. In the women’s pole vaultNatalia Ilievaalso had an outstanding outing, taking second at 4.05m (13-3.5), good enough for second in program history.
