Well. 33 Men’s golf gets its long-awaited return to action on Monday

CINCINNATI— Well. 33 The Cincinnati men’s golf team is back after a three-week hiatus to compete in the Mossy Oak Collegiate Championship, which begins Monday in West Point, Miss.

The two-day event will be held at Mossy Oak Golf Club. The 18-team field is UC’s largest of the season, featuring Abilene Christian, No. 17 Alabama, No. 4 Auburn, No. 24 Kansas State, Lamar, No. 41 Liberty, No. 43 LSU, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, No. 21 Mississippi State, No. 23 Ole Miss, Southern Miss, No. 15 Tennessee, Troy and UAB. All rankings are through Golfstat.

“It’s great to get back on the road with this group after a few weeks off,” head coach Doug Martin said. “This event will be the strongest field I’ve ever taken a team to as a coach. This is also a new event and I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead. This is great preparation for regionals. The level of play is needed for a good finish.”

Cincinnati has Sam Jean, You Gingerich, William McDonald, Ryan Ford and Rylan Wotherspoon in the tap.

Jean has led the Bearcats in hitting all year and currently has a 69.35 batting average. Gingerich follows with 69.82, Wotherspoon next with 71.48. Four different members have finished best on the team in eight events, while this trio is all tied for 13th.^thto pace the team in the final round.

UC is coming off a second-place finish at Sea Island, Ga. (March 13-14). It was its only tournament to go below par, but only champion Kansas State could accomplish that on the par-70 course. The Bearcats have also had back-to-back two-day tournaments this spring for a total of five.
