Women’s Tennis, Utah – UCLA

ANGELS The UCLA women’s tennis team registered its second 4-0 conference win in as many days by dispatching Utah on Saturday afternoon at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

Fangran Tian scored his second win of the season. Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer and Sasha Vagramov also logged singles wins for the Bruins (8-5, 3-3 Pac-12). All three players also grabbed double wins. The Utes’ record was 10-8 (1-4).

Lutkemeyer and Tian went 2-0 as a pair and ended their Court 3 match with a break of serve by Kaila Barksdale and Marcela Lopez for a 6-4 win. Then, with UCLA pairings on Courts 1 and 2 each leading 5-3, it was Vagramov’s and Open Catanzarite in the midfield, who edged past Samantha Horwood and Katya Townsend to secure the starting spot.

Five of the six first sets of singles went to the Bruins, putting them well on their way to a positive result. Lutkemeyer got out of court first and defeated Horwood 6-1, 6-1 on Court 6 for his 17th win of the season.

Lutkemeyer’s court neighbor Vagramov knocked down Lopez 6-4, 6-0 and made the overall situation 3-0. On a day when Vagramov fell short of earning his 100th career win in singles and doubles, he added two to his tally.

Tian sealed the decision as No. 23 Tian on Court 1 and No. 87 Catanzarite on Court 3 came close to victory. Now 11-0 in singles through two matches in his debut season, Tian beat Tattini 6-2, 6-3 in Saturday’s decider.

UCLA continues Pac-12 play in the desert beginning Friday, April 7 in Arizona. First serve from the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center is set for 12 noon PT. A visit to Arizona State’s Whiteman Tennis Center follows on Saturday, April 8, also scheduled to begin at 12 noon PT.
