DURHAM Duke men’s tennis moved up several spots in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll, the organization announced Tuesday.
The Blue Devils moved from No. 21 to No. 16 after registering two top-25 wins over the weekend. Duke beat No. 16 Wake Forest 4-3 on Friday before posting a 5-2 win over No. 23 NC State on Sunday. The Blue Devils are currently 15-5, including an 8-1 record in ACC play.
In addition, older Garrett Johns and a freshman Pedro Roden was listed in the latest singles activity ranking. Johns claimed the No. 19 spot, while Rodenas was ranked No. 85. Johns has an 11-8 overall dual record on Duke’s top court and has gone 6-7 against nationally ranked opponents so far this season. The reigning ACC Player of the Week, Rodenas leads the team with an 18-2 dual mark, including a 9-0 record on the No. 2 court. The Madrid, Spain native is 4-3 against ranked foes and has gone 8-1 in conference play in his inaugural season.
In singles, the pair ranks 32nd after posting a 12-2 doubles ledger. They are 5-0 in ACC play and the top field, have gone 2-0 against nationally ranked opponents and are currently riding an eight-game winning streak. The older two Michael Heller and Andrew Zhang follows closely at No. 45. Heller and Zhang have a 7-5 record in dual matches this season.
The Blue Devils travel to nearby North Carolina on Saturday for a showdown with the Tar Heels at 2:30 pm at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
