Manchester City can get a leg up on first-placed Arsenal when they visit bottom-placed Southampton in one of eight Premier League games. Prolific striker Erling Haaland has returned from a groin injury for second-placed City, who are eight points clear of Arsenal with a game in hand.
The other two top four teams are in action, with Manchester United hosting Everton in the opener before Newcastle visit Brentford. Brighton go to Tottenham on a five-game losing streak in the league.
Brighton are four points clear of Tottenham but have played two games less. Frank Lampard returns to the Chelsea touchline when the Blues visit Wolverhampton.
Lampard was appointed deputy manager following the resignation of Graham Potter. Bournemouth play Leicester with both teams in the relegation zone. Fulham host West Ham. Nottingham Forest visit Aston Villa.
SPAIN
Real Madrid host Villarreal in the league and will be looking to keep the momentum going after a 4-0 win over Barcelona in the Copa del Rey. Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti, who trail leaders Barcelona by 12 points, may change his squad to rest his players for next week’s Champions League quarter-final first leg against Chelsea.
Barcelona’s struggle at Camp Nou on Wednesday allowed Madrid to reach the Copa final for the first time since 2014. Villarreal have won two straight in the league and can move closer to a Champions League spot with another win.
ITALY
Second-placed Lazio can dominate the tight battle for the Champions League qualifying places in Serie A with a win over Juventus. A win would put Lazio six points clear of third-placed AC Milan.
But Lazio lost 3-0 to Juventus this season, and the Bianconeri have won five of their last six games in all competitions, drawing another. Lazio’s capital rivals Roma and Atalanta can move into the top four with wins.
They face Torino and Bologna. At the other end of the table, Cremonese visit Sampdoria, who have just two points more. The other side of the relegation zone is Hellas Verona and they host Sassuolo. Seven league matches will be played on Saturday because of Easter. Fiorentina host Spezia and Monza visit Udinese.
GERMANY
Bundesliga title rivals Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund will each look to bounce back from knock-out exits in the German Cup this week ahead of games that could play a key role in the race for league honours.
After Freiburg beat Bayern in the Cup on Tuesday, Bayern face the same opposition again in the league, this time away, and will have to do without striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who is out with a knee injury, and a suspended defender. Dayot Upamecano.
Dortmund showed little fight in a tame cup exit to Leipzig and now have a tricky opponent in Union Berlin, who, like Freiburg, are trying to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in their history.
Bayer Leverkusen is on a six-game winning streak ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt. Leipzig plays relegation-threatened Hertha Berlin, Mainz hosts Werder Bremen and Augsburg faces Cologne.
FRANCE
League leaders Paris Saint-Germain travel to Nice with their morale low after back-to-back defeats. PSG coach Christophe Galtier returns to his former club to fight to save his job, with PSG already suffering eight defeats in all competitions this year.
The preparation of the match has been complicated by star striker Kylian Mbappe’s criticism of his own club. The French striker was unhappy with the way PSG have made him the star of a season ticket advertising campaign and publicly complained about it.
Galtier says he believes the misunderstanding between PSG and his player has been resolved. Mbappe missed training on Friday with a hip problem, but Galtier says that should not stop him from playing. Nice is on an unbeaten streak of 14 matches. Lille travel to Angers for the second match.
