Skidmore Edged Women’s Tennis

TROY, NY The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women’s tennis team snapped a five-match winning streak Saturday afternoon when they were defeated by No. 29 Skidmore Tri-City Fitness by a final score of 5-4.

RPI took the lead in doubles as both No. 1 and No. 2 were winners. Nikki Ridenour and Lorna Flores Gonzalez took an 8-3 win for first place Aleksi Mednikova and Rani Jones won with the same result in 2nd place.

Mednikova led 2-1 in singles to give the Engineers a 3-1 lead after a 6-2, 6-3 win in singles. Skidmore came back to tie the match with wins at No. 6 and No. 4 singles before Ridenour gave RPI a 4-3 lead with a 6-0, 6-4 singles win.

However, the Engineers fell short with losses at No. 5 and No. 3 singles as the Throughbreads came away with a win.

The Engineers return to action on Wednesday April 12th at 3.30pm when they hit the Sharp Courts to take on Union in Liberty League action.
