LARAMIE, Wyo. Looking to bounce back from the previous day’s underperformance, the Colorado State women’s tennis team battled Saturday afternoon at the Wyoming Tennis Complex, only to fall short to UNLV in a 4-3 decision in a contest that only lasted. less than 5 hours.

A loss drops the No. 61 Rams season 13-6, Mountain West play 2-4. UNLV improved to 12-3, 4-2.

“We had a tough weekend in terms of results,” CSU coach Mai-Ly Tran said. “There are definitely some areas where we need to improve to get to the next round next week. We need to be more disciplined and ready to do everything we can to win. We’ve faced adversity but I’m proud of how we’re doing. embrace it and overcome it.”

With the match tied at 3, the No. 5 line was left on the court to decide the affair as UNLV’s Coco Zhao took a 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4 decision over Viktoryia Zhadzinkskaya.

It was Sarka Richterova at No. 3, giving the Rams a fighting chance with a stunning three-run victory.

UNLV took the lead with a double point and won from two ends. The Rebels pushed the lead to 2-0 by winning No. 4 singles in straight sets before Colorado State finally put a point on the board.

At the top of the singles, Radka Buzkova beat Molly Helgesson in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (2). The Rams tied the game when You are Lennon remained unbeaten in three sets and took a 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 decision over Zita Kovacs. It was the seventh three-set win for the juniors this season, just the second since the opening set win.

Richterova won the comeback in three sets against Salsa Aher in dramatic fashion. After dropping the first set 6-3, he came back with a 6-3 win and then trailed 5-1 in the third set. He rallied all the way back to level the set at 5, then went to a tiebreak which he won 7-6 (6).

“Sarka showed a lot of grit and determination to win that match,” Tran said. “He bounced back from yesterday and kept grinding. I’m so proud of the way he competed and believed in himself.”

Colorado State, now 0-4 on the road in conference play, heads to Boise, Idaho next weekend to face Utah State on Saturday (10 a.m.), then host Boise State on Sunday (2 p.m.).
