Freshman left-handed Harrison Bodendorf owns a 1.38 ERA over his last four appearances, striking out 16 and walking just three in 13.0 IP in that span. He has a 3.25 ERA and 34 Ks in 27.2 innings on the season.

NAIL BITES

Hawaii has had several close games this season, especially this past season. The ‘Bows have had 10 games decided by three runs or fewer, including five of their last six by one run. UH is 5-5 in games decided by three runs or less and 4-5 in one-run games, while six of the Rainbow Warriors’ nine Big West games have been one-run contests.

Hawai’i will look to bounce back this weekend after dropping a three-game series to CSU Bakersfield that saw all games decided 3-2. The ‘Bows dropped heartbreakers in the first two games before taking the lead in the eighth inning of the finale to salvage a game in the series. It was the first time in program history that the Rainbow Warriors played three consecutive games that ended in the same score, win or lose. UH’s pitching staff did a strong job over the weekend, posting a 2.00 ERA with 26 strikeouts and giving up just four extra base hits over three games. Stone Miyao led the team in hitting during the series, batting .571 and highlighted it with a 4-for-4 day in the finale to lead the ‘Bows to a win.

HOME COOKING

The Rainbow Warrior pitching staff has put up strong efforts over the last two weekends at home. The ‘Bows have a 1.33 ERA in their last six home games, allowing just 1.83 runs per game and giving up no more than three runs in any game during that stretch. Additionally, Hawai’i is limiting opponents to a .195 batting average with 59 strikeouts to just 17 walks and 38 hits over 54.0 innings. On the season, UH pitching owns a 4.76 ERA at home compared to a 5.54 ERA on the road.

KYSON REMEMBERS

Junior infielder I’m asking Donahue has been on a tear for the past few weeks. Despite hitting a 15-game hitting streak in the opener against CSU Bakersfield, Donahue has hit safely in 17 of the last 18 games. On the season, the Punahou School graduate is batting .354 and leads the team with six homers and 29 RBI. Donahue is also first on the team with a .616 slugging percentage and tied for first with eight doubles.

TAKE IT OFF

Hawai’i’s bats have shown pop-pop through the first eight weeks of the season. The Rainbow Warriors have hit 20 home runs on the year, the most by a UH team through the first 26 games of a season since 2010. Seven different ‘Bows have homered, leading I’m asking Donahue by six and Matt Wong, Jared Quandtand Ben Zeigler – Namoa with three apiece, tying UH for fifth in the conference in home runs.

UH’s 20 home runs are already more than eight of the last 11 seasons.
The ‘Bows are tied for third in The Big West with seven multi-HR games.
Hawai’i has hit back-to-back hits twice this season, while 14 of his 20 HRs have come in wins.
Eight of the home runs have come with two strikeouts, while seven have led to an inning.

MEET THE LEFT

Hawai’i has had strong performances from its left-hander all season. Rainbow Warriors have started left-handers Harry Gustin and Randy Abshier in the first two games of each of the last six weekends Harrison Bodendorf has four starts and Ben Zeigler – Namoa has started the ball three times. UH has started a left-handed pitcher in 22 of its 26 games this season.

Gustin is 2-2 with a 3.69 ERA over a team-high 39.0 innings with 38 strikeouts and just 15 walks.
He earned Big West Pitcher of the Week honors on March 27 after allowing just one run on one hit with eight strikeouts over seven innings and taking a no-hitter into the seventh vs. Tulane.
Abshier has started eight games and has a 3.63 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 34.2 innings.
He gave up just one hit in six shutout innings with eight strikeouts vs. Tulane on March 25th.
Bodendorf has 34 strikeouts in 27.2 innings with a 1.38 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 13.0 innings
in his last four appearances.
The UH pitching as a whole has been tough on left-handed hitters, holding them to a .228 batting average.
