Stanford splits with Texas Tech

STANFORD, CA –Eight Stanford pitchers combined for 13 hits, but the No. 8 Cardinal fell to the No. 21 Texas Tech Red Raiders (23-11) 11-2 on Tuesday as the teams split two games from the Sunken Diamond.

Second year student Braden Montgomery (1-1) started and took the loss for Stanford (22-8). The right-hander went two innings, giving up one run on one hit, allowing one walk and striking out four. Junior Drew Dowd was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 1 1/3 innings while allowing one hit, walking one and striking out three.

At the plate, Cardinal was paced by Montgomery, who went on a walk in 2-3 days. Junior Eddie Park He also had a multi-hit game, going 2-4 and collecting his 16th multi-hit game of the year. Freshman Malcolm Moore and junior Tommy Troy also had two hits in the reverse. For Troy, the multi-hit game was his 15th of the season.

Texas Tech jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the first and extended the lead to 4-0 with three in the third.

Stanford responded with two runs in the third to make it a 4-2 game, but was held scoreless the rest of the way. The Cardinal stranded nine runners in the loss.

After scoring a run in the fifth, Texas Tech added three in the seventh and ninth innings to put the game out of reach.

Stanford returns to Pac-12 play this weekend when it travels to Oregon for a three-game set on Friday at 5:05 p.m.
