Canada beats the USA in the women’s hockey world and extends the competition’s winning streak

Canada beat the USA 4-3 in a nine-round penalty shootout to close out group play at the Women’s Ice Hockey World Championship and extend its winning streak to five games, matching its longest winning streak against the USA in 13 years.

Canada and the United States will meet again in Sunday’s final should each win their next two matches.

Last summer, Canada repeated the world title by defeating the USA in the final, six months after defeating the USA in the Olympic final. Canada has the longest global championship streak after winning all five Olympic or World Championships between 1999 and 2004.

The Canadians are on a five-game winning streak against the Americans, winning three games to none in the seven-game series this season. Their 5-0 win in February was their biggest margin of victory over the United States since 2005.

The last time Canada had a five-match winning streak over the United States was in 2009-10, when they won six in a row, culminating in a 2-0 shutout in the Olympic final in Vancouver.

They were so young, Wroblewski said, according to the AP. There has to be a belief in that room that they can play with them and hopefully one day beat them. Hopefully it will be Sunday when we earn our way to the gold medal game.
