Well. 1 USC women’s water polo stands strong again at home, No. 1 LMU 20-4

LOS ANGELES The USC women’s water polo team posted a straight home victory with a 20-4 victory over visiting No. 15 Loyola Marymount today at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center. Twelve different Trojans scored while USC’s defense held tight for another home win, improving to 23-1 on the year.

USC seniors Bayley Weber and Grace Tehaney led the way on the offensive end with three goals and four others for the Trojans Julia Janov, Alejandra Aznar, Claire Haas and Téa Poljak each added two in a strong affair. Keeper Carolyne Stern and Jada Ward Halftime in the cage as Stern made five saves and gave up just one goal in the first half. Ward took over in the second half, making a huge 5m penalty stop along the way.

USC scored the first eight goals of the day with Weber and Janov going up two early. LMU broke its silence with a punt midway through the second period and saw USC score four straight from there. Haas’ first of two goals opened the second half and made it a 12-1 USC advantage. The five-goal USC rally followed LMU’s second goal of the game as Weber and Tehaney each scored hat tricks on the day. In the fourth, the Freshmen Alex Bonaguidi and Maggie Johnson joined the scoreboard before Haas got the final say in USC’s 20-4 victory.

USC wraps up its home run for the year on Saturday (April 15) as the top Trojans celebrate Senior Day before an MPSF matchup against Arizona State at 1:00 p.m.

PLEASE NOTE:

– With three goals today Bayley Weber continues the team lead in multi-goal games, now with 19 this season.
– Weber also leads the team in scoring in 22 games this season.
– USC is now 33-0 all-time against LMU in the streak dating back to 1995.
