The San Jose Sharks have signed Ethan Cardwell and Artem Guryev to three-year entry-level contracts.

The Sharks selected Cardwell in the fourth round and Gurjev in the fifth round of the 2021 Draft.

Cardwell was just selected as the Sharks’ 2023 prospect. Best known for his speed, the 5-foot-5 forward led the Barrie Colts with 43 goals and was second this season with 90 points.

The Cardwells Colts are currently in the second round of the OHL playoffs.

“Ethan significantly improved his OHL career this past year as he was one of his team’s main players in almost every situation,” San Jose Sharks GM Mike Grier said in a team press release. He has the ability to produce offensively and has helped be the driving force behind a quality team as Barrie continues their postseason run.

Guryev is a 6-foot-1 defensive first blueliner who just tied career highs with seven goals and nine assists for the Peterborough Petes and Flint Firebirds this season.

Artem is a tough and competitive defender, Grier said of the 19-year-old. He showed continued improvement in the OHL and uses his size to his advantage against opponents.

Guryev’s Firebirds were eliminated in the first round of the OHL playoffs.

The San Jose Sharks should see how Cardwell and Guryev progress in summer development camp.
