Blue Edges Gold in the 2023 Pitt Football Spring Game

PITTSBURGHThe 2023 Pitt Football Blue-Gold Spring Game presented by M@C Discount was tied at Acrisure Stadium, and the Blue Team won 33-32.

Before his ninth season as Pitt’s head coach, Pat Narduzzi led the Panthers in front of fans for the first time in 2023 with two new quarterbacks starting a game.

Played primarily in the first half, Phil Jurkovec completed 5-of-7 passes for 51 yards with another pass to QB Christian Veilleux went 6-for-9 with a 74-yard touchdown pass on the second carry, running back Derrick Davis Jr.who scored from 12 yards out.

The Gold team, which was all offensive players, took an early 23-7 lead thanks to two touchdown drives and a kickoff return touchdown. Rodney Hammond Jr.

Veteran back Daniel Carter Also found the end zone on a rush near the goal line while a walk-on backup QB Jake Frantl scored the second offensive touchdown of the game on a 14-yard scamper.

But Blue fought back and scored 16 unanswered points to take the lead after Phillip O’Brien Jr. returned an interception for a touchdown, and the defensive unit held on for the final drive.
