Track & Field runs the UConn Northeast Challenge and the Larry Ellis Invitational

NEW YORK The Columbia track and field team had a busy weekend, sending student-athletes to compete in both the UConn Northeast Challenge hosted by the Huskies and the Larry Ellis Invite hosted by Princeton. Both the men and women played solidly, with both teams securing first place wins and multiple top five finishes.

Competition began Friday morning at the UConn Northeast Challenge in Storrs, Connecticut. The women’s highlight came in the high jump, where twin sisters Julia & Anna Jordahl-Henryplaced first and second, both with a mark of 1.75m. Meanwhile, on the men’s side Devon Davey won the 400 meters with a time of 47.12.

Also included are other top performances Ian Noble who finished second in the 3000 steeplechase (9:31.43) and Sydney Goldson who won the silver medal in the 400 meters with a time of 54.40.

Meanwhile, the Lions also sent some student-athletes to compete in the Larry Ellis Invite in Princeton, New Jersey. The women’s best was Olivia Schmitt who finished 12th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:08:34. The highest men were ranked Matt Gatune who finished 15th in the 800m with a time of 1:51.42 andJack Bennett who finished 19th in the 1500m with a time of 3:48.66.

Next weekend, the Lions will compete in both the Yale-hosted Mark Young Invitational and the Virginia Challenge. The race begins on Friday, April 21 at 10 a.m. in Charlottesville, Virginia.
