#31 women’s tennis blanks Endicott, 9-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – In their final regular season tune-up before next weekend University Athletics Association championships, the Brandeis University women’s tennis team, ranked 27th, beat visiting Endicott College 9-0. It was the second match in a row that the judges won without dropping a point.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN

• The judges won this despite awarding the top two singles players and a pair of doubles tandems.
• They swept through singles with wins of 8-2, 8-3 and 8-3 to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
• In singles, the first two matches were decided with Brandeis players winning 12 of 13 games.
• The first year Ella Chase (Lincoln, Mass. / Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) won 6-0, 6-1, at number 4 and second Anastasia Sia (Thessaloniki, Greece / Anatolia College) won 6-1, 6-0, ranked 3rd.
• The first year Phoebe Tamaoki (Cambridge, Mass. / Cambridge Rindge and Latin) nearly repeated the 12/13 feat with a 6-2, 6-0, win at No. 2, while the junior Ella Subramanian (Parkland, Fla. / Laurel Springs) won 6-0, 6-1, points number 5.
• The final two games at the top and bottom of the lineup were the most competitive, featuring a pair of Brandeis sisters. The first year Nancy Jiang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai International) was a 6-1, 6-3, winner at No. 1, while the junior Jiayi Zhang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai International) passed the hardest test 6, 4-6, 7-5, 12-10.
