BIRMINGHAM The UAB Blazers (11-24, 4-11) knocked off the WKU Hilltoppers (19-18, 4-11) in extra innings after Henry Hunter hit a home run to secure the win on Sunday, April 16th.

The game started scoreless after three innings before WKU scored three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth, then UAB picked up two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. The situation was tied 4-4 during the last three innings, so the game was moved to the tenth inning, where Darryl Buggs tie, followed by Hunter’s two-run homer to make the final score 6-4.

Leo Harris (1-0) picked up his first win of the year when he entered the game and pitched five full innings in relief. Harris collected a season high in strikeouts (4) and did not allow a run on three hits in 18 at-bats. Carson Myerswho started for UAB, got the no-decision after five innings after allowing four earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.

Three batters on offense for the Blazers collected a multi-hit game Logan Braunschweig (3 to 5), Tyler Waugh (2-5) and Gavin Lewis Jr. (2-4). All three reached base with singles, including Waugh’s RBI single in the fifth to put UAB on the board for Waugh’s 12th RBI of the year. John Marc Mullins, David Harris and Hunter also picked up hits. Mullins singled while Harris collected his second RBI of the season in his seventh start of the year. Hunter reached base twice on draw walks before his homer in the tenth.

NEXT

UAB will meet Alabama at Regions Field in the second Wednesday matchup between the two teams this year. The first pitch is scheduled for 18:00 on Tuesday, April 18. Fans are encouraged to participate in the Gold Out by wearing gold to the game.
