Deacon Richard, a McNeese State University student from Eunice and student equipment manager for the Cowboys football program, was named Delta Sigma Pi’s Fellow of the Year in the South Bay Area.

Delta Sigma Pi is a professional business fraternity for men and women focused on professional skills, leadership, ethics and service.

Richard is a secondary business education major at McNeese and vice president of pledge education for Delta Sigma Pi.

“I always knew I wanted to be a teacher, but after high school accounting I decided I wanted to teach business classes,” Richard said.

After graduation, Richard plans to teach business courses at the high school level. He says McNeese’s College of Business and Burton College of Education have prepared him to be an excellent teacher. He recommends McNeese because of the small class sizes.

“Professors know you by name, not just a number,” he said. “This makes it very easy to approach them if you have a question or struggle with something.”

Richard also recommends large corporations join Delta Sigma Pi. “With over 300,000 members in the United States, there are always connections to be made that can help you achieve your goals in life,” he said.

“Being part of this fraternity has given me the opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone and travel across the nation, which I wasn’t able to do before I joined,” added Richard.
